NewsSeeking Common Language in a Tower of BabelElizabeth PennisiEfforts to compare genomic data from different organisms and thereby figure out what genes do suffer a big handicap: Genetic information is stored in different ways in different databases, which makes it hard to compare their holdings. So, while computational biologists are trying to improve the quality of the databases (see main text), they are also working to build bridges between them. So far, they have had only limited success.
