UNGstoppable Switching

The enzymes AID, a DNA deaminase, and UNG are crucial for two processes (CSR and SHM) involved in the generation of antibody diversity in B cells. As Unniraman and colleagues point out in their Perspective, new findings about the action of UNG suggest a rethink of a popular model of CSR in which the central event is DNA deamination by AID (Begum et al.)
